Pesticides have been widely used for many decades. In the mid 20th century pesticides were thought to be better if they lasted longer in the environment. Unfortunately, longer is not always better. Once in a water supply they can last for many years. The breakdown of chlorinated pesticides is extremely slow when trapped underground. Modern pesticides are designed to break down in the environment once they have done their job. Proper application is essential for this to be achieved.
