Tour Our Environmental Testing Lab

Laboratory Technical Experience

Suburban Testing Laboratories has over 55 years of environmental testing experience for microbiological, inorganic, and organic contaminants. Our technical staff has grown from a few technicians at its start to a full staff of highly educated analytical professionals working at one of the largest family-owned, independent, single-site environmental testing laboratories in North America.

Our laboratory staff is trained not only on the tests they perform but on the basics of our clients’ operations, which allows them to understand why they are performing the tests they perform.

Our automated instrumentation, coupled with our highly specialized computer system, allows us to provide accurate and reliable data at faster than average turnaround times while maintaining a competitive price. We are continuously investing in new technology and systematic improvements to keep our costs low, and we pass those savings on to our clients.

Want to see for yourself?  We’d love to have you!  Contact us for a personal tour of our 25,000 square foot laboratory.

Sample Receiving

Our sample receiving department is the first point of contact with your samples. Our sample coordinators review every order to ensure all sample conditions, documentation, and container requirements comply.  They input pertinent data into our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and ensure samples are stored according to EPA requirements.  Then, the samples continue to our laboratories for analysis.

Microbiology

Our microbiology department performs bacterial testing on various samples, including drinking water, wastewater, pools, and biosolids. Our microbiology team is the first line of defense against acute health risks to you and your family. We perform many tests supporting client needs, including Fecal Coliform, Total Coliform, E. Coli, Heterotrophic Plate Count, Helminth Ova, and Salmonella. Our laboratory technicians can also perform microscopic analysis on wastewater treatment plant sludge. Our knowledgeable team is thorough and focused on meeting the diverse needs of our customers.

Inorganic Chemistry and Metals

Our inorganic chemistry department is the most versatile area of our laboratory. We offer a large spectrum of analytical testing ranging from standard wet-chemistry techniques, such as gravimetric analysis, titrations, and colorimetry, to advanced automated analysis, such as Ion Chromatography (IC), Flow Injection Analysis (FIA), and Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS).

Organic Chemistry

Our organic chemistry department is where analysis of a large assortment of organic compounds takes place. Most of these methods require a solvent extraction process and are analyzed using gas or liquid chromatography systems. Our gas chromatography systems include mass-spectroscopy or electron capture detection (ECD) to analyze synthetic organic contaminants (SOCs), pesticides, herbicides, PCB, semi-volatile, and volatile contaminants. Our High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) technology is utilized primarily for the analysis of SOCs.

Client Services

Our client services team is comprised of a highly trained team of dedicated professionals.  Our Project Managers partner with you every step of ensuring your project is a success and serve as your main point of contact.

When it comes to reporting, Suburban Testing Labs has you covered with four ways of receiving results reports: automatic email, online report access, automatic fax, and a hardcopy. You may also elect to go paperless and only receive reports/invoices electronically. Our project managers also offer automatic notification of results that exceed your permit levels and track your compliance requirements.

Do you require specific electronic reporting or EDD’s? Our project managers are here to customize your data deliverables according to your needs, and we can automate your reports directly from our LIMS.

Avoid costly resampling due to lack of lab communication or partnership oversights by choosing our team.

Field Sciences

Our environmental testing services extend beyond the walls of our laboratory, with our Field Scientists, Field Sampling Technicians, and Sample Couriers ready to support your sampling and transport needs.  We provide a variety of services, including sample pick-up, sample collection, and onsite analysis. Our focus is to meet diverse customer needs with a knowledgeable and courteous frontline team.  Spend your time making decisions with sample data rather than coordinating complex sampling efforts.  Let us do the work for you.

Our field sciences division undergoes extensive training in all aspects of sample collection, including sampling for various types of drinking water, wastewater, industrial waste, pools, sludge, and biosolids. Our highly qualified staff will ensure that your samples are collected, stored properly, and transported according to all EPA requirements.

The field sciences team boasts cutting edge technology and equipment to get the job done, including portable composite samplers and monitoring well sampling equipment. We have a large inventory of portable composite sampling units for sampling in any environment, which are also available for rent. Field analysis capabilities include, but are not limited to, pH, chlorine, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, flow rate, and temperature. We maintain high levels of standards for calibration and equipment maintenance to ensure the most accurate results possible.
